The formula
Bags = Cubic feet ÷ bag yield (yields: 40 lb 0.30, 60 lb 0.45, 80 lb 0.60 ft³)
Example: For 9 ft³ using 60 lb bags: 9 ÷ 0.45 = 20 bags. Pallets usually hold 56 × 60 lb bags.
How it works
- 1Each bag yields a fixed volume of mixed concrete: 0.30 ft³ (40 lb), 0.45 ft³ (60 lb), or 0.60 ft³ (80 lb).
- 2Divide the volume you need by the bag yield to get the bag count.
- 3Round up — you can't buy a partial bag — and add a waste allowance.
