Paver Calculator
Enter your patio dimensions and the size of a single paver. The calculator finds the paver's face area, divides your patio area by it, and adds a waste allowance for cuts around the edges and breakage.

The formula
Pavers = (Patio ft² ÷ paver ft²) × (1 + waste %)
Example: A 12 ft × 10 ft patio (120 ft²) with 12 in × 6 in pavers (0.5 ft² each) needs 120 ÷ 0.5 = 240 pavers, ~252 with 5% waste.
How it works
- 1Multiply patio length × width to get the area in square feet.
- 2Convert the paver size to feet and multiply for one paver's face area.
- 3Divide patio area by paver area to get the paver count.
- 4Add 5–10% for cuts around the border and breakage, then round up.
Frequently asked questions
How many pavers do I need per square foot?
Divide 1 by the paver's face area in square feet. A 12 in × 6 in paver covers 0.5 ft², so you need 2 per square foot. A 12 in × 12 in paver covers 1 ft², so you need 1 per square foot.
How much extra should I order for waste?
Add about 5% for a straightforward square or rectangular patio, and up to 10% for diagonal (herringbone) patterns or curved and angled borders, where you cut more pavers.
